***** IMPORTANT CHANGES REGARDING THE 2011 BASKETBALL SEASON *****
The 2011 Basketball season is upon us and we had a great turnout in the sign-up process in October! We have over 195 players ready to start playing! And as always the parent support for volunteering their time and knowledge to coach the youth has been a success! Due to time restraints, Sonya Watkins has resigned as Basketball Commissioner and Tim Rein has graciously volunteered his time to serve as the 2011 Commissioner.
It has been quite a task to find the “best fit” for our participants in regards to our basketball schedules for the upcoming season. The North Texas Junior Basketball League, which we have played in for the past several years, has broken up. Several of our legacy rivalries have split and moved into other leagues within the McKinney/Plano area while others have gone to “mixed grade” teams due to lack of players to complete a “pure grade” team. These late decisions made by other leagues and associations have also forced some unseen changes for PYA. Due to the fact that PYA has multiple “grade pure” teams for both boys and girls, we have been challenged to find a new league to call “home”.
At this time, we have
diligently exhausted our resources in league discussions and a decision has been
made to partner with the Cooke County Boys and Girls Club in
The
Our Kindergarten and 1st grade teams will be combined to play against each other, home on home, in Pottsboro. We will have 6 teams in these age groups to work with to complete a successful schedule for their season.
We understand that many of you may be, blind sided, by these changes; however, please know we have reached out to multiple leagues and associations trying to find the best match for our PYA participants.
We want to thank all of our volunteers in advance for making the 2011 basketball season a success for the kids!
Good luck to all,
Pottsboro Youth Association Board of Directors
